Obituary of Ruth Rose Kriel

KRIEL, Ruth Rose Age 89 of Big Flats, NY. Ruth was born July 31st, 1935 in Nanticoke, PA, daughter of the late Leon and Celia (Kempski) Gruskiewicz. She passed peacefully on Wednesday evening, April 9th, 2025. In addition to her parents Ruth is predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Steve Kriel in 2005; along with her bother Leon; and sister Dorothy. She is survived by her sons Gregory (Sherri), Gary (Danielle), and Kevin (Kimberly) Kriel; grandchildren Mackenzie, Mallory, Kristen, Alanna, and Jennifer; great grandchildren Spencer, Marlee, Tyler, Anthony, Ava, and Hunter; sister-in-law Dorothy Gruskiewicz; with many friends dear to her. Ruth graduated Nanticoke High School, class of 1953, and went on Wilkes Barre General Hospital School of Radiology. She married Steven in 1957 and spent a career with Arnot Ogden Medical Center, and later St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira – where she retired after 20 years. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, on Monday, April 14th, 2025 from 10 am to 11 am. Her funeral Service will be held there at 11 am. Rev. Fr. David Cowan officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Cemetery, in Elmira Heights.
