Obituary of Martha P. Hayes

Hayes, Martha P. age 87 It is with sadness that we announce that Martha P. Hayes, loving wife and mother, passed away on Saturday, August 29. 2015. But, it is with gladness that we remember her generous ways and her love of family and friends. Martha is survived by her husband, Norman C. Hayes of Horseheads; son, Jeffrey A. Hayes also of Horseheads; daughter, Cynthia (Norman) Shorey of Ft. Myers, FL; and grandson, Jamie Hayes of TX. Other survivors include sister, Lucile (Jim) Donahue of Delray Beach, FL; special niece, Sandy (Curt) Roberts of Little River, SC; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Margie Hayes and Douglas and Mary Hayes all of Horseheads; sister-in-law, Dolores Strope also of Horseheads; cousins, Bob (Edna) Cook of Owego, Nancy Whitaker of Horseheads, Richard Cook of Montour Falls; cousin-in-law, Helene Hayes of Horseheads. She also leaves behind many, many nieces and nephews; best friend, of 68 years, Ellen Gerow; many close friends and her “second family” the Mosiers. Martha was a member of the American Baptist Community Church of Big Flats and the proprietor of Martha’s Ceramic Shoppe for many years. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc. 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Friday, September 4, 2015, from 12:30PM-2PM. A celebration of Martha’s life will follow at the conclusion of calling hours at 2PM at the funeral home with graveside service in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira.
