Obituary of Judith A. Lynch

LYNCH, Judith A. (Westfall) Age 76 of Horseheads passed away after a brief illness Oct 7, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. Judi was born Aug. 17, 1939 in Newark, NY to Leon and Lillian (Walters) Westfall. She is survived by her husband, Ben E. Lynch; sons and daughters, Brian (Deborah) Lynch, Michael (Karla) Lynch, Julie Lynch and Darby (Quay) Thompson all of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Sarah, Katherine, and Danica Lynch; Sean and Adam Bassler; Reese and Regan Thompson; and Karla’s son Aaron Strauch; sister and brother, Joan St. George of Cleveland, OH, Dr. James (Sally) Westfall of Hampton, NH, brother-in-law, Gary Sproul of Farmington, NY, and loving canine companion, Maggie. In addition to her parents, Judi was also predeceased by her sister, Nancy Sproul, and brother-in-law, Alan St George. While she was raising her family, Judi did bookkeeping work for Winchester Optical at home for many years. In raising her four children and working countless hours for the family business, Judi taught us the value of hard work and the rewards that come from a life lived well. Judi was a devoted wife and mother. She loved hosting large family gatherings weekly as well as on every holiday, and in her motherly way always insisted on making enough desserts to feed an army. Judi could always be seen at every school and sporting event of her children and grandchildren. She truly enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially cherishing summers at Sodus Bay where she taught sailing and swimming for many years. Judi was also a long-standing member of the Horseheads Women’s Club, devoted New York Yankees fan, and she also shared her big heart with many beloved dogs and granddogs over the years. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Sun. Oct. 11, 2015 from 2-4:00 and again from 6-8:00 pm. A private service will take place at the convenience of her family. Those wishing may also remember Judi with memorials to CareFirst, 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Painted Post, NY 14870 or a charity of their choice. Condolences and remembrances at www.barberfuneralhome.com Special thanks to Dr. Kimberly Kaffenbarger and her staff as well as CareFirst nurse Kate Hembrooke.
