Obituary of Roy Welcome Palmer
PALMER, Roy Welcome
age 96, a lifelong resident of Big Flats, NY, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
Roy was born on May 15, 1919, in Big Flats, NY, to the late Arthur and Virtue (Taggert) Palmer.
In addition to his parents, Roy was also predeceased by his sons, Roy and Donald Palmer;
and brothers, Percy and Clayton Palmer.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lora (Hill) Palmer;
daughter, Alice Sargent;
son, John Palmer;
grandchildren, Becky (Rob) Carpenter,
Chrissy (DJ) Keough,
Zach (Missy) Sargent,
Casey Sargent,
Devon Sargent,
Cory Palmer,
Hunter Palmer;
great grandchildren, Jamie (Patrick) Dunbar,
Cyle Keough,
Cameron Carpenter,
Collin Carpenter;
and sister, Mary Pease.
Roy served in the US Army from March 1941 to July 1945 as a Tech Sergeant with the 1st Army Ordinance in Ireland, England, Normandy, France, and the entire Northern European Campaign.
He retired from Agway and then operated Palmer’s Garage until the age of 72.
Roy enjoyed time spent on the family hilltop farm, family gatherings at home and at the lakeside, mechanical work as well as watching NASCAR motorsports events.
Funeral services with military honors will be private.
