Obituary of Richard D. Saunders, Jr.

Saunders, Richard D. Jr. age 68 of Ridge Rd and formerly a longtime resident of Ithaca passed away on Thursday evening, November 19, 2015, at home with his wife by his side. Dick was born August 17, 1947, in Buffalo, NY, to Richard, Sr. and Rita Saunders. He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Wurfer) Saunders; daughter, Sandra Saunders of Pasadena, CA; mother, Rita Saunders of Hamburg, NY; sisters, Diane (Joe) Bognar of Mantua, OH, Sharon (Jeff) Stanes of Orchard Park, NY; sister-in-law, Cheryle (Scott) Ostrander of Fishs Eddy, NY; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Richard Saunders, Sr. in 2011. Dick was a graduate of RIT with a degree in Physics. For many years, he was the owner/operator of Saunders Greenhouse Garden Center and Hobbies in Ithaca. He was also a model railroad enthusiast. His vast knowledge of plants was shared with many people in the Ithaca area; many will remember the extensive aviary at the greenhouse. Family and friends are invited to call at the parlor in the First United Methodist Church, 1034 W. Broad St., Horseheads on Sunday, November 22, 2015, from 1-2:00PM.
