Obituary of Carleton L. Rice, Sr.

Rice, Carleton L., Sr. age 64 of Horseheads, NY, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2016, at home with his wife, Diane, and his beloved dogs, Buster and Lulu, by his side. Carl was born to Geraldine (Rockwell) Rice and Robert Rice on August 9, 1951, in Elmira, NY. He grew up and attended school in Horseheads, NY, and joined the Army in 1968. In 1971 he married Yvette Cox and they had three children. In 1989 he met Diane Nitz and they married on March 23, 1996. They lived in Nebraska and recently moved to Horseheads, NY. Carl’s greatest love was his wife, and his children and grandchildren. He worked in construction most of his life having owned a remodeling business for years in Nebraska. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish, and ride his Harley. In addition to his parents, Carl was also predeceased by his grandparents, Mary O’Sullivan, Russell Rockwell; uncles, Thomas, Wesley, and James Rockwell; aunt, Virginia Rockwell Decker; and mother-in-law, Jeanice Sutton Nitz. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Diane Nitz Rice of Horseheads, NY; his children, Nicole Rice Keough of Horseheads, NY, Michele Rice Robb (Kyle Addy) and Carleton Rice, Jr., all of Tulsa, OK, and Joshua (Esmeralda) Nitz of Lewisville, TX; grandchildren, Maxine Keough of Horseheads, NY, Natalia Robb and Lane Addy both of Tulsa, OK, Alexis Rice also of Horseheads, NY, and Cooper Nitz of Lewisville, TX; brothers-in-law, Michael Cole of Grand Island, NE, Ronald Cole of Aurora, NE, Russell Cole of Hordville, NE, and David (Lori) Cole of Lincoln, NE; several aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. Carl will be greatly missed by all. He was bigger than life and lived life to the fullest.
