Obituary of Marilyn S. Howe

HOWE, Marilyn S. Age 80, Schenectady NY, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. Marilyn was born on September 29, 1935 in Blakely, PA, daughter of the late Celia Lewis and Sydney Simmonds. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Donald in 2009 and her son, Jeffery in 1972. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Dave) Lewek of Scotia, NY and grandchildren Emily Lewek of Scotia and Alexander Lewek of NYC. Marilyn resided in Rexford, NY since 2009 at Coburg Village where she enjoyed playing cards, meeting new friends, decorating her apartment door each season and spending time with her family. Marilyn was a graduate of Blakely High School and Mansfield State Teachers College. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for Horseheads Central School District for over 30 years. Marilyn cherished her grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. She was excited about contributing the flowers for the upcoming wedding of Emily to Ryan Patrie. When we see those beautiful flowers, we will know that she is close by. She will be dearly missed by her family. We are very thankful for the compassionate care provided by the medical staff of Schenectady Pulmonology and Critical Care as well as Dr. John Pezzulo. Friends and family are invited to call Wednesday, March 23 from 4-6 at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads. Celebration of life will be held at Barber Funeral Home on Thursday, March 24 at 10:00, interment will immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Coburg Village at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
