Obituary of Antoinette L. Haner

HANER, Antoinette “Toni” Leandra Pansero age 87, of Big Flats, NY, passed away peacefully Friday, May 20, 2016, at home surrounded by her loving family.Born January 7, 1929 in Wellsville, NY, Toni was the daughter of the late Santo and Angela Pansero. The oldest of four, she and her three sisters grew up in Wellsville and in Gaines, PA. While at Gaines High School and after her graduation in 1948, she worked at the Galeton Production plant in Galeton, PA. Toni married William E. Haner, Sr. on June 10, 1950. Immediately after their wedding, Bill, who was a U.S. Army officer in the military police, took his bride to his assignment in Germany. In succeeding years, they lived at a number of military bases around the country, including Fort Gordon, GA; Killeen Base in Texas; and Fort Holabird in Baltimore, MD. Throughout her life, Toni was a dedicated wife and stay-at-home mother, raising four children in locations from Kaiserslautern, Germany, to Mansfield, PA. A devout Roman Catholic, she was active in her church and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY, and of the Women’s League of St. Bibiana Catholic Church in Galeton, PA. Toni and Bill volunteered many years helping with St. Bibiana’s 4th of July Festival. A long-standing member of the Gaines Alumni Association, she often served on many of the organization’s committees. She treasured her dearest long-time friend, Julie Douglas, and group of friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed crafts and quilting with a group of neighborhood friends, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and making sure they were well fed at both her Horseheads and Gaines homes. Toni is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Bill, and by her children: William E. Haner, Jr. (Janet) of State College, PA; Kathryn Haner Carroll (Rick) of Pensacola, FL; Anne Haner Uncapher (Kevin) and Lisa Haner Dowd (Peter), both of Big Flats, NY.
