Obituary of Frank Edward Stermer II

Frank Edward Stermer II passed on June 12, 2016 at the age of 82. It's impossible to put into words the lives he touched, each of us in different ways. Devoted husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. Avid farmer, hunter, fisher & talker who like games of chance. Always ready to greet you with either a handshake or a hug. He lived the Marine Corps motto- Semper Fidelis. Frank is a Marine. He served as a Marine Corps Sergeant in The Korean War for 4 years. Married the love of his life Barbara on June 28, 1958. He succeeded his father as the Agriculture Manager at Elmira Correctional Facility where he worked for 30 years before retiring. He also started his own Stermer Farm in Montour Falls in 1965 where he worked with his loving wife every day, unless they were spending time in Florida or Arizona. Frank was a patriot and a life member of the E.J. Brewer Marine Corps League where he was an active honor guard in the E.J. Brewer Detachment. He believed in the organization and the importance of each and every person who served. He was also a life member of the VFW Post 6083 in Elmira Heights and the American Legion of Big Flats and pledged his membership with the Elks Lodge 2297 of Horseheads, as well as The Montour Moose Lodge 426. He is survived by his wife Barbara A. (Biddle) Stermer, children Tammy Schreier, Cindy (Lester) Cady, Glenda (Robert) Simpson, Keith (Ceridwen) Stermer and Wayne Stermer; know as "Poppy" to his grand children Tabrina (Andy) Schreier Jawarski, Kurtis (Jessica) Vondracek, Allen (Caitlin) Cady, Kristina Vondracek, Ceinwen Stermer, Dakota Simpson, Morgan Stermer, Cameron Schreier, Bronwyn Stermer, Rhys Stermer, and seven great grand children; brother Earl (Cindy) Stermer. Predeceased by brothers Raymond Stermer and Todd Stermer. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 1PM-3PM and again from 5PM-7PM. Committal service with full Military Honors will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 10AM in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to send a donation to the E.J.
