Obituary of Charles Calvin Curkendall

Charles Calvin Curkendall, 82, of Elmira Heights, New York and formerly of Candor, New York passed away November 27, 2016 at home with his family by his side. He was born November 2, 1934 in Berkshire, NY to the late Merle Curkendall and Lottie Hamilton. He was predeceased by his son Kyle in 2014, and brothers Grant, William, Richard, sisters Cheryl and Donna, and sister-in-laws Jean and Carol. His surviving family includes his loving wife of 58 years, Annabelle. His sons and daughters: Michael of Horseheads, Richard of Elmira Heights, Cassie (David) Dickinson of Elmira, Colleen (John) Hughes of Horseheads, Kevin (Teresa) Curkendall of Tennessee, and daughter-in-law Rebecca Curkendall of Candor. His Grandchildren: Shannon (Tom) Lipscomb, Zackory (Lindsay) Curkendall, Sarah (Chris Beach) Curkendall, Cory Curkendall, Kristy (Sanel) Miljkovic, Keri (Aaron) Guptil, Katy (Glen Turner) Curkendall, Asia Curkendall, Calvin Curkendall, Curtis Campanelli, Ashley Dickinson, Matthew (Erica Kinch) Dickinson, Joshua (Megan) Lattimer, Dustin (Aryn Boyer) Lattimer, Desiree Lattimer, Devin Curkendall, and Kara Curkendall. His step-grandchildren: Andrew Hughes, John Hughes Jr., and Kinlee Collins, and 16 great-grandchildren with two more expected in 2017. His brother Pete (Merle) of Horseheads, sister Marlene (Pete) Velletri of San Antonio, Texas. Half brother Merle L. Curkendall of Cortland, Michael Curkendall of Syracuse, and half-sister Sheila Snow of Newfield, brother and sister in-laws Ruthie (Bernard) Blinn, Carolyn Shisler, George (Delores) Wiggins, Flay (Llyod) Shisler, many special nieces and nephews, and his fur baby Bojangles. He was retired from Conwell Oil Corporation of Elmira heights. He loved his family, traveling, gambling, and was a die-hard New York Giants fan. Calling hours will be at the United Methodist Church in Candor, New York at 224 Owego Street from 12-1 PM on Saturday, December 3, 2016 with funeral services and a luncheon directly following. Internment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Candor, New York. Those wishing, may donate in remembrance to the Horseheads Animal Shelter, a charity of your choice, or directly to the family. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Richard Curkendall for the exceptional care he provided to our father during the final weeks of his life.
