Obituary of Edna E. (Doolittle) Brown

BROWN, Edna E. (Doolittle) Age 93 of Horseheads passed away Tues. Feb. 7, 2017. She was born May 3, 1923 in Endwell, NY to Leon and Violet (Alden) Doolittle. Edna was predeceased by her husband John in 2004 and daughter Penelope (John) Albert in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Lance Frawley) of Caton, NY; grandchildren, Sarah Albert and Deidre (Carter) Pettibone both of VA; great grandchild, Riley Pettibone; sister, Wanda Stannard of Pittsburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including Chloe (Bill) Burroughs of Colorado Springs, CO and Zena (Howard) Gee of Pittsburg, PA. Edna was also predeceased by her sister and brother, Zelda Williams and Clifton Doolittle and dear friend, Deborah (Floyd) Travis. Edna was a WWII Veteran of the US Coast Guard, serving from 1943-1946 and was discharged as Store Keeper 2nd Class. She served many areas including Mobile AL and Palm Beach FL. Both Edna and John enjoyed spending time in FL where she also worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block in New Port Richie FL. Edna furthered her education attending nights and receiving her Associates Degree from Corning Community College and Bachelors Degree from Elmira College. She enjoyed knitting sewing and crocheting. Edna was also an avid readier, gardener and enjoyed politics. She enjoyed tracing her family genealogy and was the family go-to for family member’s names and genealogical dates. She enjoyed traveling abroad to include Poland, Germany, and England. Edna was a caring wife mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Friday Feb. 10, 2017 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.
