Obituary of Stewart F. ""Babe"" Field
Stewart F. Field, Sr. “Babe”
Age 86, a Schuyler County Legend in Law Enforcement passed away after a brief illness on Sat. Feb. 18, 2017. Babe was born April 16, 1930 in Watkins Glen, NY to late William and Helen (Auble) Field. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie (Rulapaugh) Field; Sons, Stewart “Foot” (Wendy) Field Jr. of Watkins Glen, NY, Kenneth (Amy) Field also of Watkins Glen, NY; Grandchildren, Trevor Field, Kenneth (Amanda) Field Jr., Kristin Field, Kelly Field; Step grandchildren, James Standish, Brandon and Emilee Welty; great grandchildren, Landon Field and Weston Field; step great grandchildren, Mya Hackett, Kaylee and Drue Welty, Juliana and Parker Thompson. Brothers, Kenneth (Margaret) Field of Watkins Glen, NY; Several nieces and nephews including, Barbara Malina, Mary Field, Margaret Field, William Field, Dr. Kevin Field and Richard Field. He was also predeceased by his brother, Richard (Betty Jane) Field of Watkins Glen. Babe served in the US Navy and was a Korean War Veteran serving aboard the USS Wallace Lind Destroyer DD-703. He began his law enforcement career with the Watkins Glen Police Department in 1952 and joined the NYS Environmental Conservation Department in 1957 when the title was Game Warden. His whole life was dedicated to protecting the streams and wildlife, along with the environment, even in retirement. He loved being with his grandchildren and teaching them his skills. He was life member of Watkins Glen Elks Lodge, member of Ducks Unlimited and National Rifle Association. He was a proud member of Dundee VFW, Horseheads American Legion and Montour Falls Masonic Lodge. Family and Friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads, NY on Wed. Feb 22, 2017 from 4-7:00 pm. His service will be celebrated on Thurs. Feb. 23, 2017 at 11:00 am in the First Presbyterian Church of Watkins Glen 520 N. Decatur St. Watkins Glen, NY 14891. Burial service will follow in Union Cemetery of Hector where military honors will be accorded. Officers and members of Watkins Elks Lodge #1546 will gather at the Barber Funeral Home on Wed. at 7:00 pm to conduct a memorial service for their departed brother.
