Obituary of Joseph A. Dickerson
DICKERSON, Joseph A.
Age 60 of Watkins Glen became one of God’s angels on May 9, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Joe was a man as passionate about history as he was his family. He dedicated his life to helping those less fortunate than him. His legacy is passed onto others by the love and countless lessons that he shared with many over the years. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Nancy (Harnas) Dickerson; children, Matthew Dickerson of Watkins Glen, NY, Lauren (Wendy) Richtmyer of Montour Falls, NY, Chrissy (Keith) Rekczis of Burdett, NY; grandson, Keith (Keziah Fraboni) Rekczis, whom he cherished and was enormously proud of. Also survived by sister and brother, Linda Harris of Horseheads, NY, Curt (Judy) Dickerson of Beaver Valley, NY and nieces and nephews and many close and caring friends including Sarah Richtmyer and Harry DeCamp; his two “Forever” brothers, Hugh (Karen) Gallagher and Jimmy (Cheryl) Jones and countless scouts. Joe was a former Corrections Officer at the Elmira Correctional Facility in Elmira. He was a Boy Scout Leader who changed many young boys’ lives. His accomplishments include being an Eagle Scout and one of the most dedicated people in scouting in Schuyler County being the Scoutmaster for the troops in Odessa, Watkins Glen Beaver Valley. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St. Horseheads, NY Monday 15, 2017 from 1-3:00 pm and again from 5-7:00 pm. His service will follow there at 7:00 pm with graveside burial service at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watkins Glen.
