Obituary of Irene M Hooey

HOOEY, Irene M. Age 93 and formerly of Meyers Dr. Horseheads passed away Wed. 14, 2018. She was born in Elmira, NY, July 2, 1924 to the late Sterl and Marion (Lake) Saylor. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 2008. Her surviving family includes her, sons, Wayne (Denise) Hooey of Elmira Heights, Robert (Rene) Hooey of Horseheads and daughter, Patricia Brown of Elmira; Grandchildren, Laurie Lewis, Kimberly Strohman, Bryan Hooey, Chrisy (Rick) Newell, Jessica Hooey, Jason Becraft, Jeremy Hooey, Amanda Rogers; Many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her Son, Elwin Hooey, daughter, Diana Hooey, grandchildren, James Hooey, Ronald Midaugh, David Midaugh; Sister, Elaine Thompkins, and brothers, Elwin Hooey, Joseph Lake, and Buddy Saylor. Irene was a member of Big Flats Presbyterian Church and retired from the accounting office at JC Penny’s at the Arnot Mall in Big Flats. Irene also assisted her husband in the operation of their garage, Bob Hooey Service Station in Elmira Heights. She and her late husband were also active square dancers belonging to the Sunshine Squares. She also enjoyed sewing and time with family. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Sunday Feb, 18, 2018 from 2-4:00 pm. Her service will follow at 4:00 pm.
