Obituary of Arthur "Art" M. Gilbert

GILBERT, Arthur M. “Art” Age 75 of Erin, NY. He was born July 26, 1943 in Penn Yan, son of the late Leroy J. and Edna Mae Gilbert Sr. and passed away after an extended illness on Sunday, November 25th, 2018 surrounded by his family. In addition to his parents, Art is predeceased by his sister Deanna Polovick; brother-in-law Michael Polovick; and his father& mother-in-law, Bill & Dorla Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Gilbert; two dear daughters, Cindy (Randy) Ames and Janet (Karen) Gilbert; brother LeRoy ''Roy'' (Holly) Gilbert; brother-in-law Jim (Joan) Smith; sister-in-law Cheryl (Bob) Jones; along with his 3 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host a nieces & nephews. Art was a 1961 graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights. He went on to work as a machinist and supervisor for Hardinge Inc. in Elmira Heights, where he retired in 2005. Growing up and working on a family farm made Art a family man who valued time with those who loved him. Art was an avid sportsman; he especially enjoyed hunting trips with his brother up to the cabin. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St. in Horseheads on Friday, November 30th, 2018 from 11 am to 1 pm. Art’s funeral service will be held there at 1 pm, followed by committal prayers and interment in Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation in Art’s name to the Falck Cancer Center
