Obituary of Betty Jean Barnes

Betty Jean Barnes Passed away on Jan 7, 2022 in Elmira, NY. She was born Jan 12, 1937 in Veteran, NY, the daughter of Harold D & Ruth H (Dullin) Coon. Betty was retired as a bus driver from Chemung County Transit and Horseheads School District. She attended Elmira Christian Center for over 35 years, drove Sunday School bus and also taught Sunday school. She volunteered at the school and loved to attend sporting events, especially basketball. She was a member of Central Assembly of God in Horseheads since 2018. Betty had several hobbies including genealogy, crocheting, and crafting, especially making stained glass windows. She researched her family’s history as far back as to England and Germany. One of her ancestors was quoted as being “a woman of sterling quality”, she for one definitely carried on that trait. Betty was a great woman who dedicated her life to her family and made many sacrifices to ensure they would have great lives. She was a mother to more than just her family and loved by many more. Betty is predeceased by her brothers; Harold Coon, Robert Tompkins, Fred Coon, Floyd Coon, Herbert Coon, and Earl Coon. She is survived by brother Dick Coon. She is also survived by her husband Clark A. Barnes of 51 years, married on May 9,1970 and her 7 children; Douglas Barnes, Vicky (Nick) Shaban, Kevin Barnes, Tammy (Dwayne) Eggers, Suzette Lutcher, Kimberle Seigh, Geoffrey (Kelly) Barnes, 14 grand children; Jonathan Shaban, David Shaban, Bridget Ringler, Jacob Barnes, Phillip Eggers, Christoper Eggers, Zachary Eggers, Ryan Lutcher, Matthew Lutcher, Rachel Lutcher, Caleb Seigh, Ashlyn Seigh, Elijah Seigh, Kirstin Bailey, 17 great-grand children; Shane Shaban, Madison Shaban, Derrick Adrianzen, Eralyn Adrianzen, Quinn Shaban, Danielle Ringler, Ava Marie Gray, Lola Bell Gray, Aidan Preston, Gabriel Preston, Faolan Preston, Abby Preston, Adrieanna Presher, Maddox Presher, Liam Seigh, Molly Ellis, Alanah Ellis and 1 great-great-grand child, Mia Hunt. In lieu of flowers the family is asking to please donate in Betty’s name to The Children’s Miracle Network at Arnot Ogden Medical Center A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Central Assembly of God, 1 Brenway Dr., Horseheads, NY on January 22, 2022 at 1 pm, officiated by Rev Joseph Chamberlain.
