Obituary of Helen J. Matejka

Helen J. Matejka Age 94, formerly of Erin, NY. She was born on November 30, 1927 in Waverly, NY, the daughter of the late Philip and Pauline (Niemi) Argetsinger passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, January 17, 2022 in Cohoes, NY. In addition to her parents Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Ira W. Matejka in 2004; their son Dennis in 2014; her sister Evelyn Smith; and brother Philip Argetsinger Helen retired from Westinghouse Inc. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren for always having home baked chocolate chip cookies available for when they visited. She enjoyed playing cards with friends as well going with Ira and their growing children square dancing on Saturday nights at the Erin Town Hall. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Bruce) Struzinsky of Erin, NY, and Phyllis (Andrew) Stern of Rensselaer, NY; grandchildren Shawn (Liisa) Struzinsky of Horseheads, NY, Shannon (Ted) Hills of Spencer, NY, Jennifer Jones of Spencer, NY, Jean (Greg) Koski of Van Etten, NY, Joshua Stern of Herndon, VA, and Sarah Stern of Albany, NY; great grandchildren Aimee (Brian) Hills-Austin, Kelly (Joshua) Hills-Muckery, Sandy Hills, Thomas (Ashlee) Swartout, Ira Koski, MacKenzie Jones, Glen Jones IV, Morgan Frisbie and Robert Frisbie III; beloved great great grandchildren Thomas Swartout III, Thea Hills-Muckey, Alivia Swartout, Kendall Austin, and Asher Austin; her brother Danny (Carol) Argetsinger of Bradford, NY; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends The family would like to thank The Eddy, House 7, for all the love and special care they took of Mom and her family when we visited. They always had cookies, and milk or coffee for visitors. In lieu of flowers those wishing may make a donation in Helen’s name to the “Eddy Village Green – House 7”, sent to Eddy Village Green, 421 Columbia Street, Cohoes , NY 12047. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY, on Saturday, January 22 from 1 pm -3 pm. Helen will be laid to rest in Scotchtown Cemetery, in Erin NY on Saturday may 21st, 2022 at 1 pm. Rev. Beverly Davenport officiating.
