I first met Charlie in May 1979, when I joined the Dept. of Labor crew at the Cayuga Mall office in Ithaca. Charlie was always upbeat and good-humored, and he was a pro at handling the the worst claimants. He was a voracious reader, knocking off mega-novels by James Michener in just a few days. He favored American History, especially books by Mark Twain. I will always remember his kindness and his infectious laughter. He made our office feel like family.

I started at DOL a few years after Charlie retired. I've heard so many of his colleagues speak of him and with such love and respect so many times that I forget that we did not work together! I thinking of your family during this difficult time.

A gentleman, a professional, a friend. One of the nicest persons anywhere, always a smile and a hello. Charlie always said, don't worry about a pink slip, you came here looking for work and you may leave looking for work. Light hearted, GREAT guy.
