Obituary of Maria Y. Smart

Maria Y. "Mary" Smart Mary Yolanda Smart, Age 94, of Appleridge Senior Living, Horseheads NY, passed away on June 22, 2022. She was one of seven children born to Maria and Vincent DeLuca of Rosebank, Staten Island. Mary was 5 years old when the family moved to the Bronx where she spent a very happy childhood. She was employed by NY Telephone Company for 10 years as a business office manager. She met her husband William (Bill) F. Smart and together they raised five children. When Bill retired as a sergeant from the NYPD, they relocated to Horseheads, NY. Mary then went to work for Marine Midland Bank until she retired. Mary was devoted to her family and loved cooking, making crafts and doing fun things with her family and friends. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bill of 59 ½ years (in 2013), and her six siblings. She is survived by her five children: Maria (Anthony) Perrone, Linda Adams, Bill Smart, Tricia (Kris) Reynolds and James (Allison) Smart, along with nine grandchildren: Alyson (Javier) Perez, Brian (Leigh) Adams, Michelle Adams, Paige (Gordon) Middleton, Taylor (Josh) Tomko, Kristian Reynolds, Candace Smart, Ethan Smart and Jace Smart; along with seven adorable great-grandchildren: Essence and Jaxon Perez, Levi, Loralai and Waylon Adams and Lake and DeLuca Middleton. She is survived by her sister-in-law Shirley DeLuca and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family and friends are invited to the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 8:30-9:30. A Christian service will be held at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W. Broad St, Horseheads, at 10:00 am. Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband at Woodlawn National Cemetery, 1825 Davis St, Elmira, at 11 am. A luncheon will be held at the Horseheads Moose Lodge, 416 W. Franklin St, Horseheads at noon. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
