Obituary of Charles A. McDermott

Charles A. McDermott "Chuck" Of Addison, NY formerly of Elmira passed peacefully at the age of 78 with his loving family by his side on November 26, 2022 at Bampa's Hospice House in Corning, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Hertha McDermott; siblings Margaret (Jim) Paciorek, Hereatha Herrick, and Daniel McDermott. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years Linda McDermott; son David (Melody) McDermott; daughters Cheryl Logue, and Lisa (Mike) Gaboriault; step-children Laurie Patterson, Pat Grabowski, and Chris (Christie) Smith; proud grandfather of Chelsea McDermott, Amber Logue, Taylor (Danny) Lepiscopo, Scott Logue, Claire and Carter Smith; siblings Mike (Dottie) McDermott, Christina Miller, and Arthur McDermott; sister-in-law Marsha McDermott; lifelong best friend Cameron MacDonnell, and his faithful cat Iggy. Upon graduation from Notre Dame High School in 1962 he entered the U.S Marine Corps and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on October 14, 1966 at the rank of Sergeant. Chuck was awarded the Quilt of Valor on July 31, 2022. Chuck retired from the NYS Department of Corrections in 1995 as a Lieutenant after 25 years of service. Chuck loved hunting, anything Elvis, anything military, his firearms, fur kids, and making beautiful Indian crafts. Most of all Chuck loved his family. Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 11am-1pm. His memorial service will be held there at 1pm. Rev. Patrick L. Connor officiating. Committal prayers and interment with military honors will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery Columbarium Wall. The family would like to express their heartful gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Bampa's House for making Chuck's last days peaceful and honorable.
