Obituary of Joseph D. Smith

SMITH, JOSEPH D. "MUGZIE" Age 51, of Horseheads, NY passed away on Wed., July 26, 2023 after a series of illnesses over the last several months with his wife and children at his bedside. Predeceased by his father, Hudson Smith; mother, Beverly Smith; brother, William Smith; and sister Shelaine Terry. Joe is survived by his wife of 30yrs., Judy (Watkins) Smith; daughter & son in law Alicia & Raymond Bernard; son & daughter in law Joseph & Jenna (Wilson) Smith; sisters Cathy (Keith Wilcox) of Elmira, & Charlotte (Scott Striegel) of Florida; grandchildren Grayson, Kylynn, Lorenzo and Elijah, and bonus grandchildren, Brandi & Bryan. Joe proudly served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division as an Ammunition Specialist at Ft. Bragg, NC; He was recently employed through Keystone Clearwater Solution out of Mansfield, Pa., one of several oilfield jobs, where he became a friend, mentor & brother to many. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY, on Thursday, August 3rd 2023 from 5 pm to 7 pm. A Celebration of Joe's Life will be held there at 7 pm, with Pastor Jeff Redner officiating. Family will lay Joe to rest privately in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY with military honors.
