Obituary of Cheryl Lynn Burch
Cheryl Lynn (Copp) Burch, 73, of Horseheads, NY, passed away on August 15, 2023. Cheryl is survived by her husband of 55 years Charles Burch, her children, grandchildren, and countless friends.
Cheryl grew up in Elmira, NY where she attended Elmira Southside High School. Upon graduating, Chuckie and Goob got married on August 10th, 1968, and just a few short years later, moved to Horseheads, where they: lived, entertained, fed the neighbor kids, hosted countless pool parties and sleepovers, counseled, and nurtured those invited and not, took in strays, opened their doors for extended stays, and raised their family since 1975.
It is true that Mrs. Burch devoted so much of her life to ensuring that those close to home were cared for; Cheryl's outside life consisted of serving the Elmira Heights School District in various roles ranging from school board member to coach to library aide. She cherished her friendships and colleagues while serving her community. Cheryl's passion was to always root and champion for opportunities for all children and families.
While Cheryl had some health struggles, she always looked out for others and kept a sharp mind. She loved to read, keep up on the neighborhood, and share memories of Elmira's storied past, including her own stint at Izard's and reminisce about working at three long gone established venues formerly known as the Elmira, Capitol, and Colonial Theaters. Perhaps it was these working experiences that she forged a penchant for late night movies and snacking on her favorite Circus Peanuts.
Very few are recognized by a singular title, but for all those that knew and loved her, she became Nanny to so many. This was a role that she placed above all else and because of this, she will forever remain with all of us that she affected during her life. We are forever grateful to have had so much time with Nanny to celebrate all that we did.
Our family knows that she is finally at peace.
Nanny proved that a heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others!
A private family service will be held at Woodlawn National Cemetery.
At Cheryl's request, donations to celebrate her life can be made to the SPCA.
Charles and the rest of the Burch family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to CareFirstNY and Barber Funeral Home for the grace and care that each offered Mom as they comforted her and our family through this time.
