Stanley Youmans

Obituary of Stanley R. Youmans

Age 84, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with MS. Stan was born on October 16, 1938, in Corning, NY, to the late Calvin Sr. and Florence (Razy) Youmans. He grew up in Elmira, NY; and it's here that he met his loving wife of 63 years, Donna Brooks Youmans; they moved to Horseheads, NY where they raised two incredible children, Debi (James) Warfe and Randy (Lorrie) Youmans. Stan is predeceased by his parents Calvin Sr. and Florence; in-laws, Frank and Edith (Hammond) Brooks; brothers, Calvin Jr., Richard (Dick), Arnold (Arnie), Ronald, Gary, Rexford (Bucky); sisters, Arlene Webster and Eileen Gee; brother-in-law, Keith Brooks; son-in-law, James Warfe and many loved family members. He is survived by his brother, Gerald (Judy) Youmans. Without question, Stan's heart was always with his loving wife Donna, who he met in 1957 at Joycrest Skating Rink. He spread his love, patience and understanding which made each day with him a blessing, especially for his grandchildren, Kiersten Warfe, Ryan (Sarah) Youmans, Sydney (Jeremy) Brenning, Ryess Youmans; step grandchildren, Jason (Theo) Warfe, Nealy (Chad) Dann; great grandchildren, Janaya Warfe-Harden, Jayden Johnson, Saige Johnson, Layla Johnson, Brady Brenning; step granddaughter Lucia Warfe; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was affectionately known by many nicknames: Butch, Stosh, Stan the man, Stan the candy man and Pop-Pop to name a few. Stan's love for life was unparalleled, whether it was working around the house, playing ball, attending church or spending time floating around his pool with his wife Donna. He was the rock and the man behind the scenes for 50 years at the many shows, parades and recitals his family enjoyed with the Donna Brooks Dance Academy and Telstar Cadets Baton and Drum Corp. He was always there supporting Debi and Randy at their activities while they grew up and even into adulthood. Later in life he did the same with his grandchildren time and time again. He worked as a forklift operator for Thatcher/Anchor Glass for many years before retiring at the age of 52 due to his MS diagnosis. His work ethic and friendly demeanor endeared him to his co-workers and management throughout the years. Stan also had an amazing career as a baseball and softball player. During his prime he was playing 7 nights a week between multiple leagues. Over the years, he garnered many accolades including the prestigious Industrial softball league batting title. In high school, he was an outstanding third baseman for Elmira Free Academy playing across from first baseman, Ernie Davis. His outstanding sportsmanship equaled his playing ability and was recognized by all that had the pleasure of being around him on and off the field. His infectious smile and amiable manner will be greatly missed by everyone. He was usually the quietest person in the room but once you met him, he was always the most memorable. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy (EFA) class of 1958 and was a proud member of the 8th ward. Stan was a die-hard New York Yankees fan to say the very least. On behalf of Stan's family, we'd like to extend our deepest gratitude to the congregation and staff of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, all the students and families over the 50 years at Donna Brooks Dance Academy, Shirley and Jim Kirkley, Donna Case, Tony Denicola, Donna Barto, Mary Evans, Janet Youmans, Florence Slaughter, Bob (Patti) Gressel, Rhoda Kaplan, Emylee Yusko and many close friends that were part of his life.
