Obituary of Dr. P.V. Abraham

ABRAHAM, Dr. P.V. Age 77, of Horseheads, NY, passed away on April 29, 2011. He was born in India, the son of Mr. P.A. Varkey and the late Annamma Varkey. He married Sarah Kuruvilla in 1961. After graduating from Kasturba Medical College in 1961 he moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1963. He continued his residency at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT and at the College of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, NJ. He was employed at St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady, NY and in 1973, he moved his family to Waverly, NY where he started a surgical practice at Tioga General Hospital eventually serving as Chief of Surgery. In 1989, Dr. Abraham came to Schuyler Hospital as Chief of Surgery, continuing in that position until 2010, but continued his private practice until his death. Dr. Abraham is survived by his wife, Sarah Omana Abraham, and his four children and their families: his daughter Shinu Abraham; his daughter and son-in-law Seema and Brian Lynch and grandchildren Sarah and Benjamin; his daughter Sheela Abraham Pyles and grandchildren Kiran and Sreya; and his son and daughter-in-law Drs. Sunil and Lisa Abraham and grandchildren Nicholas and Katherine. He is also survived by his 100-year-old father, Mr. P.A. Varkey, who resides in Kerala, India. Friends and family are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, NY, on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. His funeral service will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church, 1034 W. Broad St. Horseheads, NY .
