Obituary of Laurie J. Ames

Laurie J. Ames 64, of Elmira, NY, passed away on August 18, 2023, in Elmira. She was born on October 5, 1958, in Elmira, NY. Laurie is survived by her mother Helen Kohan, her siblings, Brian Fitzgerald, Jeff Kohan, Doug Fitzgerald, Martin Fitzgerald, Karen Kohan, and Gene Kohan and his wife Coralee. She was also survived by her daughter Ciara Ames and her partner Cassady Beaton, her son Ian Ames and his wife April, and a cherished grandmother to Lily Ames and Kevin Jensen Jr., as well as numerous other grandchildren and also a niece Brittany Pearson and a nephew Shane Elston. She also shared a loving relationship with her partner of 12 years, Martin Benjamin Sr. Laurie was predeceased by her father Kenneth Fitzgerald, her stepfather Eugene Kohan, and her grandmother Beatrice Bixby who was her inspiration and was admired greatly by Laurie. Laurie had a passion for working in her yard, especially on hot and sunny days. She found solace and joy in tending to her yard and gardens. Laurie also loved to play board games, card games, and she also made ones up when handing out presents on Christmas day which sometimes took way too long! A memorial service to celebrate Laurie's life will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 11AM at Friends of the Cross Christian Church located at 2618 Goff Rd. Corning, NY. Laurie will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
