Obituary of Sharon Pierce

Sharon Pierce- Hakes Age 86 of Hammondsport, NY. Sharon was born on January 29th 1938 in Spencer, NY, the daughter of the late Curtis Rumsey and Doris (Guiles) Berlin. She passed away peacefully at home on Keuka Lake with family by her side on Wednesday, February 28th 2024. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F. Hakes in 1997; second husband Gary Pierce in 2017; son Christopher Hakes in 2021; and brother Curt Rumsey in 2017. Remembering her are her daughter Julie (Paul) Pacheco of Chapel Hill, NC; son Steven (Kelly) Hakes of Big Flats, NY; grandchildren Stella, and Paloma Pacheco, and Sydney P. Hakes; along with extended family and friends, Sharon and Tom raised their family in Horseheads and would later call Keuka Lake their full-time home. They were proprietors of the Beverage Barron and Hatfields Market in Bath NY. Sharons interests were many; she enjoyed roller skating in her youth, gardening, dominoes, golfing, bowling, dancing and good music, and the serenity of Keuka Lake. She was an active member of the Wayne American Legion and member of the Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to Keuka Lake, she also enjoyed the mountains at their cabin in the Adirondacks, pontoon boat rides, and cherished time spent with family and friends. She will be laid to rest in the family plot in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammondsport, NY. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 12pm to 3 pm, at the Wayne American Legion, 4926 County Route 26, Wayne, NY 14893.
