Obituary of Gloria E. Bohen
Gloria E (Jones) Bohen, 92, passed away at home April 10, 2024, just shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, April 23, 1931 to Mary (Schwarz)& Frederick Jones. She was predeceased by 10 of her 11 siblings and, in 2014, by her husband Alexander J Bohen and her son, Stephen.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Bohen of Horseheads, NY and her sister, Lillian Dooley of Lower Saucon Twp, Pa. & many nieces & nephews.
She met her husband working at the A & P Manufacturing Plant in Brooklyn. After marrying in 1950 she left there and had 2 children. When her children were old enough she went back to work at night for Chase Manhattan Bank. Before moving she enjoyed spending her summers with extended family at the Breezy Point Beach Club. The family moved to Horseheads, NY in 1965 when her husband was transferred to the A & P Manufacturing Plant located there. She then got her old job back as a cost accountant. After the plant closed in 1982 she went to work for a family friend who owned the parts business for Corning Glass Works.
Gloria was a loving mother, loyal friend, hard working, determined woman who always wanted the best for her family. Gloria was a beautiful woman who replaced a model who didn't show up for a Chase Bank photo shoot. She loved animals more than most people! She was humble, kind, and generous to her family but never spent much on herself. She was a fantastic cook who always had a big Sunday dinner ready even though she didn't enjoy cooking. She excelled at everything she did. Her fear of the water did not stop her from learning to swim and scuba dive. Her goal every summer was to reach 100 laps in the pool which she always accomplished. She once spent a couple of years crocheting a queen size afghan for her daughter. She enjoyed square dancing and round dancing with her husband. For many years she would be on the golf course at 6am. This past year was hard on her because she could not use her zero turn mower after she broke her femur. She was also much handier around the house than her husband. The look on her face when you gave her a lollipop was priceless. Her last meal was ice cream which next to chocolate candy was her favorite food! Gloria was a complicated and serious person and perhaps a little stubborn. But she combined it all with an unexpected sense of humor.
Per her request there will be no services. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary Our Mother cemetery in Horseheads, NY.
