Obituary of Jean M. Coon

Jean Marie (Forrest) Coon Age 86, of Veteran, NY. It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Marie Forrest Coon announce her passing. Jean was born April 18, 1938 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late Charles O. and Frances (Dunn) Forrest. She passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Richard D. Coon; daughters: Cindy (Thaddeus) Zaparzynski, and Tina (Joe Ribble) Coon; grandchildren Natalie (Zachary) Ritchey, Hilary (Richard) Charlton, Thadd (Jaclyn) Zaparzynski, Charles Coon-Ribble, and Joel (Ashley) Coon Ribble; great grandchildren Frances Ritchey, Samuel Ritchey, and Wyatt Coon- Ribble; along with her nieces, nephews, extended family, and many, many dear friends. Jean had many job titles through her life. The most important being mother to her daughters, grandmother (grammie), and great-grammie to the younger children as they came along. She was the first female bus driver for Elmira Heights. She worked for the A& P Plant, and found a calling as a Teacher's Aide with BOCES for students with special needs. Outside of all her time given to family and organizations, she loved hosting or attending the parties on Middle Road, trips to the beach, wine tours, road trips, or a night in with Wheel of Fortune. Above all she loved to watch her grandchildren sing, dance, and play sports, as well as any chance to dance with the love of her life. Her family wishes to recognize her special caregivers, Kenneth Fish, and Barbara Kraus. Those wishing may honor Jean with a donation in her name to The Chemung County Special Olympics, 1 Grove Street, Suite 216, Pittsford, NY 14534. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads on Monday, June 24th, 2024 from 11 am to 1 pm. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 pm, across the street in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 408 South Main St., Horseheads.
