Obituary of Meredith H. Voorhees

Meredith H. Voorhees "Mert" Age 85 of Elmira Heights, NY. He was born March 11, 1939 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Howard and Anna (Kahler) Voorhees. Meredith passed away peacefully on Monday evening, August 5th, 2024. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers John (2010) and Kenneth (2020), along with his brothers in law Lee Russ (2015) and Bob Plumley (2023) He is survived by his wife Judy (Hyuck) Voorhees; their children Mark (Audrey) Voorhees, Missy Ripley, Joel (Kristy) Voorhees, Lori Fullwood, and John (Kelly) Fesetch; grandchildren Austin, Olivia, and Dylan Voorhees, Nathan and Bryce Ripley, Landon, Nolan, and Graydon Voorhees, Jacob and Cole Wilcox, Roland Richardson and Sadé Khamassi, and Jack Fesetch; many beloved great grandchildren; siblings Anna Russ, Evelyn (Mack) Rhodes, Edith (Dave) Reese, Mary Plumley, and Donald (Kay) Voorhees; sister-in-law, Gail Voorhees; son in law Bob Ripley Jr.; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Mert, as he was known, was an avid worker to say the least. After retiring from Rhinehart Sand & Gravel, he went back to work – spending over 40 years there in total. He was a member of the Mutual Vigilance Society and the Big Flats Historical Society. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Outside of his pride for his family, and his passion for his work, he enjoyed country music, classic cars, gardening, and attending the county fairs. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY, on Friday, August 9th, 2024 from 3 pm to 6 pm. His funeral service will follow at 6 pm. Mert will be laid to rest in a private committal service with family, in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY.
