Obituary of Jean Annette Wood
Mrs. Jean Annette Wood
Age 86 of Erin, NY. She was born March 10, 1938 in Watkins Glen, NY, the daughter of the late Henry and Ada (Pike) Simmons Sr.
Jean passed away on Friday, August 9th, 2024.
In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her son, Lawrence F. Wood Jr. in 2008, her beloved husband, Lawrence F. Wood Sr. in 2011; and her recently departed dog, Bryson.
She was employed by Elmira City School Dist. Elmira, NY as a(n) Special Education Teacher.
She is survived by her John Wood of Erin, NY; grandson Shawn Wood; sisters Rose (Jim) Oldroyd of Florida, Nancy Wells of St. Louis MO, and Alice Smith of North Carolina; nephew Mark Oldroyd; niece, Lisa Vanderpool; and many dear friends and extended family.
Jean worked for the A&P Plant before becoming a Special Education Teacher with the Elmira City School District. She worked for over 15 years, her passion was to teach the children as well as coach them in their athletic endeavors like the Special Olympics.
She greatly enjoyed travelling, having taking ship tours and leaving the county on some trips. Jean had most fun with her family when they all went camping together. At home, she was happy to sit on the porch, or in the living room – reading her book or watching the birds fly by.
Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY on Friday, August 16 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
A Graveside Service to celebrate her life will be held immediately following in Scotchtown Cemetery, Erin, NY. Following the graveside a celebration of Jean's life will continue at the Bentley-Trumble American Legion, 71 Old Ithaca Road, Horseheads, NY 14845.
