Obituary of Arlene W. Preston

PRESTON, Arlene W. Age 87 of E. Vargo Rd. in Horseheads passed away at home after a courageous fight with cancer on Aug. 14, 2011 with her family by her side. Born Arlene Winifred Mott on July 20, 1924 in Hinsdale, NY, she was the daughter of Raymond and Evelyn (Fairfield) Mott. She is survived by her husband Arthur Preston with whom she recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. She is also survived by her Daughters and sons, Verena (James) Rattray of Horseheads, NY, Gerald (Vicki) Preston of Corning, NY, George (Dorothy) Preston Brooktondale, NY, Judy (Mark) Elston of Horseheads, NY, Richard (Pattie) Preston also of Horseheads, NY; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; Sisters and brothers, Jeannette Graham of Angelica, NY; Andrew (Gwen) Mott of Silver Springs, MD Eugene (Linda) Mott of Pavilion, NY Shirley (Robert) Elyard of Alaska; Sisters-in-law, Faith Miles of Elmira, NY and Florence Preston of Horseheads, NY. Arlene was a creative homemaker, a leader in community activities, and a faithful servant to her church. She was an active in 4-H and was involved in Home Bureau and Cooperative Extension. Arlene served annually in the election process being part of the Chemung Co. Election Board and for several years, she was superintendent of the Domestic Department of the Chemung County Fair. She also served as a volunteer at Twin Tiers Baptist High School and was a member of the Breesport Baptist Church. Above all, Arlene was the central force in creating and raising a family that loved her deeply. Family and friend are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Wed. Aug. 17, 2011 from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 pm. Her service will take place in the Breesport Baptist Church 240 Church St. Breesport, NY on Thurs Aug. 18, 2011 at 10:00 am with a graveside service to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery ion Horseheads.
