Obituary of Richard D. Ruger

RUGER, Richard D. Age 77 of Old Ithaca Rd. Horseheads passed away Aug. 16, 2011. Dick was born Aug. 2, 1934 to Marcus Sr. and Leona (Foster) Ruger. He is survived by his wife, Dawn (Theetge) Ruger; Daughters, Kathleen (Harold) Langeland and Karen (Kary) Erickson; son, Richard Ruger Sr.; Grandchildren, Christopher and Melissa Langeland, Candice (David) Cunningham, Richard Ruger Jr., Daniel, Andrew, and Joshua Erickson; a great grandson, Troy Cunningham; brother, William (Connie) Ruger of Beaver Dams, NY and sister, Donna (Tim) Callahan of Blue Mountain Lake, NY. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his brothers, Marcus and Kenneth, granddaughter, Monica Ruger and nephews, David Mosher, Thomas and Timothy Ruger and Mark Ruger. Dick was a member of the Horseheads High School Class of 1955 and a retired inspector with National Homes. He was also a veteran of the US Marine Corps and former employee of American LaFrance. Dick was also an accomplished Middle Weight and Golden Glove Boxer. He was extremely proud to be a Marine and that pride carried throughout his life. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads, NY on Mon. Aug. 22, 2011 from 5-7:00 p. where his service will be celebrated at 7:00 pm. The Rev. Robert Finch will officiate. Burial service will take place on Tuesday in Maple Grove Cemetery
