Obituary of Kenneth C. Hayes

HAYES, Kenneth C. of Horseheads, NY loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, family driver’s Ed teacher, and all around handyman, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sat. Mar 31, 2012 at the age of 86. He was born March 11, 1926 in Elmira, NY to the late Cecil and Ethel (Rice) Hayes. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helene (Conklin) Hayes; and their children, Leland (Karen) Hayes of Winnsboro, SC, Linda (Richard) Morrell, Jr. of Horseheads, NY, LouAnn (Chris) Pritchard of Canandaigua, NY, Larry (Debby) Hayes of Florence, KY; and Leonard (Wendy) Hayes of Mechanicsburg, PA 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; along with his brother and sister-in-laws, Robert Conklin,Eugene (Shelba)Conklin, Carl & (Cartha)Conklin, Dorothy (Conklin) Hood, Lucille (Conklin) Millspaugh, Karon (Roger) Johnson, Jerry (Judi) Conklin. He is also survived by special cousins, Norman (Martha) Hayes, Douglas (Mary) Hayes, Melvin (Margie) Hayes and Delores (Harold) Strope; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Kenneth was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Horseheads, which is now the Lighthouse Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Trustee, along with numerous other positions within the Church. He served as the church custodian for 19 years. He lived his life so that everyone knew he was a devoted Christian. Ken was also a Sergeant serving in the US Army Reserve. In his early years he worked as a truck driver and then became a home builder with his cousins. In his later years he was the Maintenance Supervisor for The Center At Horseheads and retired from there. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main St., Horseheads on Tuesday April 3, 2012 from 5-8:00 pm. His service will take place at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 209 Gardner Rd., Horseheads, NY on Wed. April 4, 2012 at 10:00 am with the Rev. Richard Hack officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads.
