Marion K. Hopper
Long time resident of Murphy Hill Road in Horseheads and Maywood, NJ was called home Wednesday, January 9, 2013 while in Atlanta, GA at age 92 after an extended illness. She is the widow of Everett S. Hopper, Jr and was predeceased by her great grandson, Caleb Parm. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie (John) Crosby of Tucson, AZ; son, Doug Hopper of New Orleans, LA; three grandchildren, Rachel (Rick J) Parm and Gretchen Crosby of Atlanta, GA, Peter Crosby of Mesa, AZ; and great grandson, Aiden M Parm. Marion was born May 16, 1920 in Paterson, NJ to William F and Jessie (Gall) Knoess. She married Everett S Hopper, Jr in 1945. She served as a LT(JG) in communications in the Navy in WWII. While in New Jersey she was active in the Order of Eastern Star Pioneer Chapter # 127 in Hackensack, NJ. She was also the registrar for the Girl Scouts in Bergen County. She was a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Altar Guild of St. Marten’s Episcopal Church in Maywood, NJ. Locally she was a member of the Chemung County Historical Society, Audubon Society, Women’s Veteran Association and National World War II Memorial Society. She was also a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Horseheads. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads on Thursday from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 pm. Her service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 11:30 am with burial service with military honors to following Woodlawn National Cemetery. Notice: Officers and members of the Order of Eastern Star will gather at the funeral home Today, Thursday to conduct at memorial service at 3:45 pm.
