Obituary of Robert Schoonmaker

Robert M. Schoonmaker Age 79 of Berkley Lane in Horseheads and formerly a longtime resident of Fishkill and Newburgh, NY passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013. Bob was born February 26, 1934, the son of the late Melvin and Laura (Brought) Schoonmaker. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Rosalie M. (Maniscalco) Schoonmaker of 56 years on June 9, 2009. He is survived by his daughters, Laura (James) Slack of Cary, NC, Rosanne Larsen of Allegany, NY, Petrina (Kevin Rifenburgh) Schoonmaker of Beacon, NY and Alicia (Dr. Sean) Stryker of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Christopher (Cami) Slack, Erin (David) Slack Pugh, Colleen (Adam) Deibler, Robert Larsen, Sarah and Peter Stropoli and Alexandria and Ryan Stryker; great grandchildren, Camdyn, Maddox, Kya, Kinsley and Titus Slack, Brooklyn and Reagan Deibler, Ayla Pugh; and sister, Jeanna. Bob was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Donald Larsen; granddaughter, Kathleen Larsen; and brother-in-law, Joseph Maniscalco. Both Bob and his wife were longtime residents of the Newburgh area. He was a devoted husband and father and US Navy veteran of the Korean War. Bob was a member of K of C- 4th Degree State Warden and State Youth Director. He was involved in various community and civic services and was an avid golfer and runner. Most of all a devoted grandfather and great grandfather. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street,, Horseheads, NY on, Today, Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 4-7:00 p.m. Family and friends are further invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30-10:00 a.m. His service with military honors accorded will take place at the funeral home at the conclusion of those calling hours on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Christopher E. Linsler officiating. Interment to take place at the convenience of his family in the Calvery Cemetery, Newburgh, NY.
