Obituary of Donna M. Mathew

MATHEW, Donna M. Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Age 79 and long time resident of Elmira, Horseheads and Harris Hill Rd. in Big Flats passed way unexpectedly on Jun 11, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital. Donna was born in Elmira on Jan. 29, 1934 to John and Kathyrn (Hand) Schmalenberg. She is survived by husband, Bob Mathew who was a retired manager for over 30 years with Corning Inc. Also surviving are Sons and daughter, Joanne (Raymond) Parker of Lowman, John (Terri O’Brien) Mathew of Etters, PA, Robert (Moriah) Mathew Jr. of Granite Falls, WA, Mark (Diane Thompson) Mathew of Elmira; Grandchildren, Sara Truman, Holly and Michael Talmage; Samuel, Elyssa, and Carly Mathew; Christopher, Steven, and Daniel Mathew; Great grandchild, Steven Truman; Sisters-in-law, Rita McGinley Turnersville, NJ and Beverly Mathew of Elmira. She was also predeceased by her infant daughter, Kathleen Mathew in 1962; sister, Joan Thomas and brothers-in-law, Francis Mathew and Charles McGinley. Donna was a graduate of EFA in Elmira in 1951. She was a long time communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads and former member of the Corning Country Club. Donna and her husband Bob recently celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary this past June 7, 2013. She and her husband spent their lives raising their family on Harris Hill Rd. in Big Flats. They traveled extensively to Japan, England, Hawaii, and all over the United States. Her greatest joys were her family and the time spent with them. Main St. Horseheads on Friday June 14, 2013 from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 W. Broad St. Horseheads on Sat. June 15, 2013 at 9:00 am. Burial service to follow in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery.
