Obituary of Evelyn I. Brooks

Brooks, Evelyn I. Age 58, recently of Big Flats and longtime resident of Fletcher St. in Horseheads passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wed., Aug. 20, 2014. Evelyn was born on August 31, 1955, in Elmira, NY, to Raymond and Beatrice (Dibble) Brooks. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Milton, Thomas, Robert, James, Billy and Frederick Brooks; sisters Bonnie Brooks and Beverly Bird. Evelyn is survived by her children, Jamie (Kristi Allen) Brooks of Pine Valley, NY, Tanya (Ken Koellner) Perry of Horseheads, NY, Ashley ( Josh) Brooks VanOrsdale of Big Flats, NY; grandchildren, Tyler Brooks, Dessirae Miller, Mitchell and Morgan Perry and Ava Brooks; brothers and sisters, Debra (Mark) Warner of Gillett, PA, Beatrice “Sissy” (Jim) Dibble of Deland, FL Sherry (Ted) LaBarr of Pine Valley, Shirley Hewlett of Texas, Edwin Brooks of Elmira, NY Marsha ( Allen) McCormick of Wellsburg, NY, Sandra Matkosky of Horsheads, Raymond, Jr. (Geraldine) Brooks of Elizabethton, TN and Jack (Christine) Brooks of Horseheads; several nieces, nephews and a host of special friends. Evelyn was a graduate of Thomas Edison High School. She worked in home health care and private home care as a caregiver to the elderly. Evelyn was also a member of the Horseheads Women of the Moose. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, family and friends. Family and friends may call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Mon. Aug 25, 2014 from 12:00 noon-2:00 and again from 4-6:00pm where her service will follow at 6:00 pm.
