Obituary of George E. Howe
HOWE, George E.
Age 89of Pine Valley passed away Wed. May 12, 2010 at Elcor Health Service Center. George was born Sept. 6, 1921 in Batavia, NY, the son to the late Ethan H. and Minnie C. (Lutz) Howe. He was predeceased by his wife and high school sweetheart, Doris (Golden) Howe on February 14, 2003.
His surviving family includes his daughters and sons, Darla and Lee Davenport of Fort Meyers, FL, Kathy and the Rev. Larry Scouten of Wellsburg, NY, Randy Howe of Pine Valley, NY,
Kevin and Robin Howe of Elmira Heights, NY; grandchildren, Keith Hayes and Kimberly (Patmon) Malcom, Kirk Scouten, Joel (Flor) Scouten, Sarah and Hannah Scouten, Steven, Brian, Jennifer and Stephanie Pickering; several great-grandchildren;
brother, Frank (Barbara) Howe of Keuka Lake, NY, sister, Esther Hall of Florida, Dorothy Goodrich of DeRuyter, NY,
many nieces, nephews and friends. George was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. He retired from Bendix in Elmira Heights as a machine operator for over 30 years. He later retired from Horseheads Central School District as a bus driver for over 37 years. George was also a Boy Scout Leader in Pine Valley through the 1960’s. Outside of the love for his family and being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, George also had a green thumb when it came to growing his many flowers. Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads on Monday, May 17, 2010 from 4-7:00 pm. His service will follow there at the funeral home at the conclusion of calling hours at 7:00 pm with his son-in-law, the Rev. Larry Scouten officiating. His graveside interment will take place privately at his family’s convenience.
