Obituary of LaVerne ""Vern"" L. Morgan, Sr.

MORGAN, LaVerne L. “Vern” Sr. Age 87 passed on Monday, December 22, 2014, at home. Vern was born on September 1, 1927, in Canton, PA to the late Leon and Verna (Miller) Morgan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Elnora “Lee” Morgan in 1997; and her daughter, Barbara Nichols Tremaine. Vern is survived by his children, Vern (Nadine) Morgan, Jr. of Elmira, NY; Kathy (Douglas “Woody”) Woodruff of Horseheads, NY; He is also survived by his wife, Mary (Hickock) Morgan and her family grandchildren, Dustin Morgan, Bobby Tremaine, Shane (Lacey Kinder) Tremaine. Marissa and DJ Woodruff; Several other extended family members. Many special friends including, Lynne (Tim) Gaylord. He is also survived by several step children and their families Vern was also predeceased by his brothers and sister, Dean, Ellis, Merill and Enid. Vern was a US Navy Veteran serving during WW II from 1945-1946. He was a member of the Horseheads American Legion, an avid hunter, bowler, “coach” of Jubilee Men’s Bowling League and fisherman. Vern was the founder of Vern Morgan Auto Sales on Old Ithaca Rd. in Horseheads. Family and friends may call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 S. Main St, Horseheads on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, from 1-4:00 pm with funeral and committal service with military honors to be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 4pm.
