Obituary of Barbara J. Flatt
FLATT, Barbara J.
Age 72 of Olcott Rd. Big Flats and formerly of Horseheads passed Fri. Jan. 2, 2015.
She was born in Montour Falls, NY, Mar. 13, 1942 to G. Arthur and Dorothy (Smith) Flatt.
She is survived by daughter, Carole M. Bahns-Daum of Horseheads;
Grandsons, Zachary D. Bahns and John J. Daum;
Sisters, Marjorie Brink, Beverly Riley; Brother, Donald (June) Flatt;
Nieces and nephews, Kathleen Brink, Donna Riley Roberts, Kathleen (Steve) Riley Smith, Margaret (Patrick) Arcari, Michael (Lorie) Brink, Douglas (Vanessa) Riley,
John (Sheila) Riley, Robert (Pat) Flatt; six great nieces and seven great nephews; many extended family members, past co-workers and close and caring friends.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother and wonderful friend to so many. She was known and will be remembered by all for her loving smile and her enthusiastic and generous spirit.
The most important aspects of her life was her faith in God and her family, especially spending time with her grandsons, attending and being involved with all the joys in their lives.
Barbara was a retired Executive Assistant to IST Partners and COO in Big Flats.
In her earlier career she worked as a Legal Secretary with Peterson & Halpin Law Firm in Odessa, and Ziff Weirmiller, Learned & Hayden in Elmira. She was Human Relations Director of Shepard Niles Crane and Hoist Corp., Montour Falls, NY.
She was Secretary to the President of F.M. Howell & Company in Elmira, Secretary to two Vice Presidents of Resco in Oakland, NJ, and Vice President of Corporate Services of Bethany Village in Horseheads.
Barbara was a member and past president of the Elmira Business & Professional Women’s Assoc., Member of Chemung County Legal Secretary Assoc., Horseheads First United Methodist Church, Choir Member, Electra Circle, Knit-Wit and UMW. Barbara was a member of Odessa Vol. Fire Auxiliary, Horseheads American Legion, Volunteer at AOMC, and was a Bunco Babe, Red Hatter, and Howellette.
She also enjoyed knitting, quilting, sewing, reading, baking and card making.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Mon. Jan. 5, 2015 from 1-3:00 pm and 5-8:00 pm
Her service will be celebrated in the Southern Tier Church of Christ 351 E. Thurston St. Elmira, NY on Tues. Jan. 6, 2015 at 4:00 pm
Burial at a later date in Laurel Hill Cemetery Odessa, NY.
