Obituary of Henry F. Gray

GRAY, Henry F. age 84 of S. Main St. Horseheads passed away Sat. May 29, 2010 at the Arnot Ogden Nursing Facility. Henry was born in Elmira, NY, Dec. 29, 1925 the son of the late Charles and Margaret Mead Gray. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Geraldine (Barrett) Gray; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald (Rebecca) Gray also of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren; Amy Gray of Portsmouth, NH, Seth Gray of Horseheads, NY; brother-in-law, Rev. Glenn (Sylvia) Barrett of Staunton, VA; several nieces and nephews including Robert (Mary Lou) Howland and Theodore (Dr. Vera) Howland. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Margaret Howland and his loving aunt and uncle, Otto and Nellie Rhodes. Hank was a member of the First United Methodist Church and retired from the US Postal Service as a letter Carrier in Elmira. Hank was a Southside High School graduate of the class of 1944. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army with the First Division Company D, 26th Infantry. He was a participant in the European Theatre and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of National Association of Letter Carriers and the NARFE. Hank and his wife were also longtime proprietors of The Not So New Antique Shop in their home on South Main St from 1974-1994. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Tuesday June 1, 2010 from 4-6:00 pm. His service will be celebrated in the First United Methodist Church 1034 W. Broad St. Horseheads on Wed. at 10:00 am . The Rev. Dr. Robert O. Sherburne will officiate. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira. Flowers are graciously declined, however, those wishing may express their sympathy with memorials to the First United Methodist Church Living Memorial Endowment Fund 1034 W.
