Obituary of Richard H. Recard

RECARD, Richard H. Age 88 of E. Franklin St. Horseheads passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday July 23, 2010. Dick was born Aug. 16, 1921 in East St. Louis, IL, a son of the late Harrison and Robina (Harvey) Recard. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Spaulding) Recard; Sons and daughters, Richard Recard Jr. of Lewisville, CO, Kathleen (Bob) Ervay of Horseheads, NY, Nancy Hough of Waverly, NY, and Steven (Jennifer) Recard of Honeoye Falls, NY; Step children, Jeffery (Diana) Merritt of Big Flats, NY, Anita (William) Daw of Atascadero, CA, Julie (William) White of Knoxville, TN, and Steven (Cathy) Merritt of Geneseo, NY; Grandchildren, Teresa (Wes) Smith, Brian (Tina) Ervay, Kief (Jennifer) Hough, Christina (Richard) Carter, Christopher Hough, Katherine and David Recard; Great grandchildren, Joseph Solometo, Isabella and Elissa Ervay, Kennedy and Hailey Hough; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Also predeceasing was his first wife, Marjorie Ann in 1989; brothers, Harold and Edward Recard; and son-in-law, E. Richard Hough . Dick was a retired Chemical Engineer for Corning Inc. and member and past elder of the Horseheads First Presbyterian Church. He was also active as a past Boy Scout Leader. Dick was a Lieutenant in the US Navy. While serving during WWII he was as a flight instructor for both the Corsair and Stearman aircraft. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Sunday July 25, 2010 from 6-8:00 pm. His service will be celebrated in the First Presbyterian Church 2943 Westinghouse Rd. Horseheads on Monday July 26, 2010 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Jonathan Knight officiating. Interment to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads where military honors will be accorded. Those wishing to remember Dick may do so with memorials to Southern Tier Hospice 11751 East.
