Obituary of Robert J. Schrom Sr.

SCHROM, Robert J. Sr. Age 74 of Redwing Lane, Horseheads and formerly a long time resident of Chambers Road in Catlin passed away Monday Aug. 16, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic, OH. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Frances on April 14, 2005. Their surviving family includes, daughters and son, Theresa Schrom of Elmira, NY, Robert Schrom Jr. “Butch” of Elmira Heights, NY, and Kathleen Schrom of Horseheads, NY; grandsons, Joseph and Craig Schrom; Brother, Don (Peg) Schrom of Elmira, NY; Sister, Marjorie Johnston of Elmira, NY; Sisters-in-law, Patricia (Ray) Thompson of Elmira, NY, Rose Comfort of Johnsonburg, NY, Sister Janice Morgan of Pittsford, NY, Sister Carol Morgan of Clarence, NY, Janice (Bill) Grenier of Punta Gorda, FL; also several nieces, nephews and many close caring friends. He was also recently predeceased by his dear friend and companion, Shirley Callear. Bob was born Jan. 15, 1936 a son of the late Lawrence and Beatrice Schrom. Bob was a devoted communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads. Bob was a corrections officer having retired from the NYS Department of Corrections Monterey Shock facility. He was a member of the Horseheads Elks Lodge #2297 and was also a member of the Army National Guard. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping and shooting with friends at the Chemung Co. Rod and Gun Club. Most of all he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads Thurs. Aug. 19, 2010 from 2-7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 West Broad Street, Horseheads on Fri. Aug. 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
