Obituary of Gladys I. Doan

DOAN, Gladys I. Age 86 of Murphy Hill Rd. in Horseheads passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday Aug. 22, 2010. She was born Mar. 13, 1924 a daughter to the late Tracy and Viola (Gruver) Jackson in Ogdensburg, PA Gladys is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 69 years, James Doan. Their daughters and son, Dianna (Lawrence) Rosplock of Horseheads, Marilyn (James) Bryon of Macedon, NY, James S. (Betsy) Doan also of Horseheads, NY; Grandchildren, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild Brothers and sisters Dorothy McNett of Williamsport, PA, Hazel (Maynard) Chomenko of Chemung, NY George Jackson, Galen (Gladys) Jackson, Norman (Jean) Jackson all of Ogdensburg, PA Together Gladys and Jim were predeceased by their daughter, Linda Reynolds in 1999 and son Raymond Doan in 1960. Gladys was also predeceased by her sisters, Marjorie Gardner and Clara Cole. Gladys was a former employee at Swiss Colony at the Arnot Mall. She was a longtime member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in Elmira Heights, NY. She was a loving wife, caring and devoted mother and grandmother who loved caring for her family. Gladys was a devoted homemaker, loved baking pies, cookies and breads to share. She also enjoyed her time working at the A&P Plant, painting, photography and an occasional fishing trip. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Today Tues. Aug. 24, 2010 from 11-12:00 noon where her service will follow there at the funeral home at 12:00 noon. Interment to also follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira.
