Obituary of James M. Doan

DOAN, James M. Age 89 of Murphy Hill Road, in Horseheads went home to the Lord and his wife, son and daughter on Thursday Aug. 26, 2010. Jim was recently predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Gladys on Aug. 22, 2010. He was born April 16, 1921 in North Chemung, NY, a son to the late Earl and Katie (Jones) Doan. Jim is survived by his daughters and son, Dianna (Lawrence) Rosplock of Horseheads, NY, Marilyn (James) Bryon of Macedon, NY and James S. (Betsy) Doan also of Horseheads, NY; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are his special family of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Jim was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Elmer Doan, Earl Doan, Joe Doan, Mildred Spaulding, and Helen Avery. Together Gladys and Jim were predeceased by their daughter, Linda Reynolds in 1999 and son Raymond Doan in 1960. Jim and his wife were longtime members of Oakwood United Methodist Church in Elmira Heights, NY. He loved the farm life, horses, sleigh rides, an occasional fishing trip with the Pennsylvania relatives, and the beauty of the country side. Jim was a proud and dedicated member and past master of the Order of Free and Accepted Masons for 50 years. Jim dearly loved his wife and his family. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Sat. Aug. 28, 2010 from 12noon-2:00 PM where his service officiated by the Rev. Patrick Holder will follow there at the funeral home at 2:00 PM. Interment to also follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira. Officers and members of Elmira Heights Lodge #913 F. & A.M..will gather at the Barber Funeral Home on Saturday. at 11:45 am to conduct a memorial service for their departed brother.
