Obituary of George F. Lian

LIAN, George F. Age 88 and former resident of Olean, NY, and longtime resident of Tifft Ave. in Horseheads passed away Thurs. Aug. 26, 2010 at the Manor at Bethany Village. George was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Pamela on Sun. Feb. 25, 2007. He was born Apr. 4, 1922 in DuBois, PA a son to the late Fred and Frances (Bader) Lian. He is survived by his sons, Rev. Fred (Kerrie) Lian of Highlands Ranch, CO and Christopher (Jill) Lian of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Madison Lian, Alexis and Nicholas Lian; sisters, Adele Alleman of Las Vegas, NV, Helen (Patrick) Duffy of Palmdale, CA; brother, James (Linda) Lian of Newberry Park, CA; sister-in-law, Sybil Gibson of Sunriver, OR; brothers-in-law, David (Pamela) Space (Ret. USN) of MN and Stephen Space of Dummerston, VT; and several nieces and nephews. George was also predeceased by his sister, Norma Sawaya and brother, Robert Lian. George was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Force serving as an aerial photographer and radio man during WWII. He was the Chief photographer to the Olean Times Herald in Olean, NY and later George retired as the Chief photographer for the Elmira Star Gazette in 1987. He was a life member of the National Press Photographers Assoc., member of the Southern Tier Organization of Photographers and Horseheads Kiwanis Club. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Friday Sept. 3, 2010 from 4-7-:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 W. Broad St. Horseheads on Sat. Sept. 4, 2010 at 9:30 am. Burial service with military honors will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Those wishing may also remember George with memorials to the Falck Cancer Center 600 Roe Ave., Elmira, NY 14905.
