Obituary of Florence J. Gustin

GUSTIN, Florence J. Age 95 of Horseheads. She was born March 27, 1924 in Elmira, the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Selewach) Guidus, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24th 2019. In addition to her parents, Florence was predeceased by beloved husband of 55 years, Francis J. Gustin Jr. in 2001; her brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Helen Guidus, along with her brother-in-law Gary Weichenthal. She is survived by her children Alan Gustin, Barbara (Michael) Chopko, Mary Ann (Peter) McIntosh all of Horseheads, Michael (Dr. Shari) Gustin of Penfield, NY, and Thomas (Terri) Gustin of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren Debbie Chopko, Valerie (Levalle) Wynn, Laura (Dan) Howard, Dr. Michael (Dr. Ashley) Chopko, Heather (Keith) Doolittle, Mark (Jennifer) Gustin, Sara McIntosh, Bethany Gustin, Lindsey (Chris) White, LCpl. Zachary Gustin, and Ryan Gustin; her 10 great-grandchildren; Brother and sister-in-law Richard (Elsbeth) Guidus of Fort Myers, FL; sister Dorothy Weichenthal of Avon, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Florence is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a woman of great faith; a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Roman Catholic Church in Horseheads whose life was rooted in daily prayer. As a grandmother, Florence was involved in and celebrated the individual interests of her grandchildren. She was an avid card player who also attended many Red Hat luncheons with her friends. Florence graduated the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and retired after nearly 30 years of working with St. Joseph’s Hospital and other area healthcare as a Registered Nurse. In addition to her faith, work ethic, and devotion to her family, she will be remembered fondly for her great love of life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 2, 2019 at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 West Broad Street, in Horseheads. Rev. Christopher E. Linsler officiating. Private committal and interment will take place in St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation in Florence’s name and memory to American Diabetes Association, P.O.
