Obituary of Angela Rose Savino

SAVINO, Angela Rose Age 90 of Horseheads and recently of Ithaca passed away on Dec. 22, 2010. Angela was born on October 31, 1920 in New Rochelle, NY. The daughter of Nicholas and Marie Rose. She married Carl Savino of Sayre, PA. on May 10, 1947 at the Gramacy Hotel in New York. She was the proud mother of Carl Savino, Jr. ( Donna) of Saratoga,. Granddaughter Jennifer Savino, Clifton Park, NY, Maryrose Savino (Dave Iannello) Ithaca, NY, Christopher ( Susan Wronkowski) Savino, Horseheads, NY Diane Savino ( Lorna Smith) Minneapolis, MN, Elizabeth Germaine, Horseheads, NY granddaughter Emily Rose Germaine, Buffalo, NY, Loving sister Beatrice Robertaccio, Plymouth, MN and nephews Tom Robertaccio, Plymouth, MN and Richard Robertaccio, (Kathy & Natalie) Barrington, IL, Gregory Savino, Sayre, PA and loving cousin Barbara Covell of Eastchester, NY. Angela graduated from the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY with a B.A. she began her teaching career at St. Eugene’s in Yonkers, NY then moved to the Horseheads area and attended Elmira College Graduate School. She taught elementary school for 30 years, retiring in 1985 from St Mary Our Mother, Horseheads, NY. She continued her teaching career after retirement at the Achievement Center in Horseheads. During her years in Westchester County she loved entertaining and attending CIA/CIC conventions with Carl. During WWII she worked in Manhattan for the California/Texas Oil Company in the Chrysler Building and loved taking the train everyday into City. She adored New York, the big band era and all it had to offer and her favorite social function was attending the Glen Island Casino dances. She was a dedicated mother and teacher and touched the lives of many students. She loved her card and dominos group of friends, her daily lunches at Gerould’s, Hanover Grill and the Hilton. She was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and her Rosary group gatherings on Thursdays. She will be remembered as a woman full of enthusiasm, vigor and dedication for the things she believed in. She was a fast driver and once had visions of racing cars professionally. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, NY on Tues. Dec. 28, 2010 from 1-3:00 pm and again from 5-7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in St Mary Our Mother Church 816 W. Broad St. Horseheads on Wed. Dec. 29, 2010 at 9:30 am. Burial service will follow in St Mary Our Mother Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Angela’s family request that a donation be made to St. Mary Our Mother Parish, 816 W.
