Dear EJ, Its been a long time since we last met. Marty and I had two connections, I have been a WGI flagger for nearly 30 years and, because of my career in corrections, we compared notes about NYS prisons. We kept tabs on which of us had been in more or different facilities.
I enjoyed our friendship and I am saddened to know that such a bright and articulate man faced the ravages of Alzheimers. Our family's experience tells me that you have borne a special burden.
Because I am in Elmira, please feel free to call for any support. You are in my prayers.

Although we left Elmira for western NY as young adults, my husband Jim and I enjoyed having visits from Marty when he was in our area and phone calls from him whenever something reminded him of us. He was a kind, genuine and gentle soul always willing to lend a hand if someone needed help.He also had a sense of humor. He helped us move from Niagara Falls to Buffalo. After he left, I found a boot in the refrigerator. I particularly remember when he came to visit us in Buffalo driving a hearse that he was driving as his vehicle. He parked it in our driveway. Our phone was “hot” with calls from neighbors wondering if everything was ok.
He left the world a better place and us with fond memories
Jim and Jeanne MacKenzie

Dear EJ,
I'm so sorry to hear about Marty's passing as he and the Laux family have been such an integral part of the Litzelman's as far back as I can remember. We were always regaled by Marty's many interesting stories when he was the limousine driver transporting many dignitaries or just common folks, or the flag starter at Watkins Glen or the many times when his family and ours met at our farm, the Cavanaugh homestead, in and around Elmira, or Dushore/Sullivan County area to enjoy each other's company.
I will be keeping you and Marty's extended family in my prayers as he WILL certainly be missed. I will be thinking of those pleasant memories we had of Marty and pray the Good Lord give you strength to bear the heavy burden of your loss.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed through the Mercy of God rest in Peace, Amen
John Litzelman

Very sad to learn of Marty's passing. He was my very first date way back many, many years ago. He taught me how to ""drag race"" in his old Buick and we had more fun and laughs throughout the many years of our lasting friendship. Marty was one of the good guys - there aren't many like him. May all your good memories help all of you through this difficult time.
