Obituary of Betty Jane Personius

PERSONIUS, Betty Jane Powers Age 81, of Terry Hill Road, Horseheads died Monday, January 31, 2011 at Bethany Manor surrounded by her family. She was born March 23, 1929 in Elmira. She is survived by her children, Tom (Betsy) Personius of Kentucky, Linda (Kevin) Roe, John (Connie) Personius, Kathleen (Rich) Cicora, Patricia (Mike) Hazen, and Kelly (Tim) Sherwood, all of Horseheads; brother, Jim (Judy) Powers; sister-in-law, Aloise Bendedict; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Eugene and Stella (Hulett) Powers, she was also predeceased by sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Harold “Smitty” Smith, John Powers, Gene (Betty) Powers, and sister, Irene Powers. Betty graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1947. She was a long time member of the League of Women’s Voters, Ladies Home Bureau, Dairylea Women’s Group, and a former member of Veteran Grange and Chemung County Doll Club. Betty worked for the Board of Elections for 50 years as well as baking hundreds of wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family and her loving, giving and caring nature. A celebration of her life for friends and family will be scheduled at a later date in May.
